This thanksgiving was hectic and quite all at the same time. This year dinner was held at my mama and papa’s (the weird french way my family says grandma and grandpa) new house they literally move into the week before, the hectic part. Attending was: Me, my mom, and my brother, my grandparents (mama and papa) and Henry (their dog AKA weirdo), my great aunt with her husband and their three kids, and finally my grandpapa (my great grandfather). And yes, I still have great grandparents, I come from a long line of young mothers (and I love it). Not a lot of people can say the even met their great grandparents, but yet I met three of mine, and for that I am super thankful.

This year was special for our family because it was the first time our families managed to get all together properly since before covid. All the sudden my cousins weren’t little anymore and me and brother are at the legal drinking age. Things were feeling really strange, in the best way possible. Over the years each member of the family have acquired specific dishes that we all bring for thanksgiving. My responsibility has become the stuffing, naturally everyone favorite part of the dinner, no pressure. Don’t worries I pulled it off with a new recipe that I had never tried and it was still fantastic. I also got help from my youngest cousin Zoe, she’s 11 and was super eager to help her big cousin cook a part of the stuffing.

After dinner we all sat and finished off the wine and caught up. My two older cousin Demetrios and Alexios (they’re greek, can you tell?) are in highschool now so that’s weird, I am pretty sure there’s pictures of me holding each of them as newborns… I feel old. It was really interesting talk to Alexi about how he is finding high school compared to middle school, he is missing the fun teacher he had the year before. I also answered all of the questions my grandpapa had about my education path, my hair, my nose piercing, when I was going to have kids… you know all the normal thanksgiving dinner questions.
